Saturday’s high heat and humidity extended up and down both coasts leading to high Home Run Forecast Index values.
Saturday, July 6th, featured lots of high heat and humidity along both coasts leading to high Home Run Forecast Index (HRFI) vales in many big league parks. The higher the HRFI, the more the favorable are the weather conditions for baseballs to travel and Saturday featured numerous games with high HRFI values of “9” or “10”…the highest numbers on a user-friendly scale from 1-10 (“1” indicates the least favorable weather conditions for hitting home runs). On Saturday, the following big league stadium locations featured either a “9” or “10” as the average HRFI value: New York City (Yankees), Washington, D.C., Los Angeles (Dodgers), Seattle and Oakland. The number of runs and home runs was impressively high in most of these games with 18 runs and 5 home runs in New York, 20 runs and 3 home runs in D.C., 27 runs and 7 home runs in Oakland, 9 runs and 2 home runs in Seattle, and 8 runs and 5 home runs in LA. Interestingly, the A’s in Oakland scored 19 runs on their own in their game on Saturday which is the 2nd highest total by any one team in a game all year (the A’s scored 20 in a game earlier this season).
Sunday will also feature high heat and humidity up and down both coasts leading to high Home Run Forecast Index values.
The weather continues hot and humid in much of the coastal regions on Sunday. High Home Run Forecast Index values of “9” or “10” are likely again this afternoon in places like Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Los Angeles and Seattle. In other words, the weather will be favorable for baseballs to travel in many of the same places that featured slug fests on Saturday.
It surely is hittin‘ season!
