A heat wave extends from California to Montana this weekend and all the way to the Pacific Northwest coast with temperatures well above normal for this time of year. This excessive heat will continue into the middle of this week and it includes the Los Angeles metro region where inland spots can easily surpass 100 degrees during the next couple of days. The heat will have indeed an impact on the Home Run Forecast Index (HRFI) with today’s game in Anaheim (1:07 PM local) and Los Angeles (4:00 PM local) featuring index values of 10 representing the most favorable weather conditions for baseballs to carry a longer distance.
Looking ahead, the heat will continue in California into mid-week and then attention will turn to a potential hurricane in the eastern Pacific Ocean which has a chance of spreading moisture into portions of southern California late this week or next weekend. Any clouds and rain from a tropical system could actually be a welcome break after the expected several days of excessive heat in southern California.
